The Forest of Arden once surrounded the town of Stratford upon Avon, and is the setting for Shakespeare's As You Like It. This ancient woodland which stretched across the breadth of Warwickshire was said to be so dense that a squirrel could jump from tree to tree across the whole county.
Although introduced into England in the mid 1600s, Shakespeare was aware of the cedar tree and mentions it in several of his plays.
