The Merchant of Venice

Pair of organic cotton napkins, featuring a hand-drawn design and Shakespeare quote, and naturally dyed with hawthorn from the banks of Shakespeare's Avon and the hedgerows of Warwickshire. Our cotton is ethically grown and woven, and sewn by a women's co-operative in Kerala, India.

Through the sharp hawthorn blows the cold winds.

The leaves, flowers and berries of hawthorn yield beautiful shades of apricot, coral and dusky pink in the dye bath.

Led by nature

Our naturally dyed items are produced in small batches, and the journey from plant to finished fabric is both attentive and unhurried. As the seasons turn we will be releasing limited drops of these unique products.

Using natural dyes made from leaves, bark, berries and flowers, each product in our Dyer's Hand collection offers beautiful soft tones and shades, with unique variations in colour, character and depth, creating a one-of-a-kind piece.  It is important to note that naturally dyed results will never be uniform, and occasionally the colour from the dye may settle in different areas of the fabric. We like to think that the colour of the finished cloth reflects the ever-changing seasons and nuances of nature.

Care Instructions

Wash at 30ºC using a natural eco detergent without optical brighteners or bleaching agents. Our naturally dyed products have been test washed up to 10 washes with no visible fading, but the colours may be subject to fading over longer periods of time. Line dry.
